It was an odd Friday morning for Young’s Commercial Transfer, a fourth-generation family business in Porterville.

Magician David Blaine literally dropped from the sky, held aloft by balloons as he landed at the farm trucking firm’s yard located on Scranton Avenue just west of Highway 65.

The facility is located just north of the Porterville Airport, which was his apparent destination, according to news anchor Megan Rupe of CBS47 Eyewitness News, who reported the incident on Twitter Friday morning.

Young’s Commercial Transfer posted photos of Blaine on its Facebook page. They show him posing with employees of the company after the magician descended from the sky under what appears to be more than a dozen of multi-colored, oversized balloons. A film crew appeared to be shadowing Blaine. Video of the landing showed a helicopter was also on scene.

“Never a dull day at Young’s Commercial Transfer,” according to the Facebook post. “Most days we help feed the Country. Today David Blaine landed his balloons in our parking lot.”

“Just YCT things,” the post concluded.

A message left for Young’s Commercial Transfer President Scott Daniel was not immediately returned Friday morning.

Blaine announced a couple of days ago that he would attempt his first stunt in more than a decade — flying from New Jersey over New York City holding helium balloons. The student, dubbed “Ascension,” is set to take place Aug. 31 and will be livestreamed on YouTube.

Some of Blaine’s previous endurance stunts included spending nearly 64 hours enclosed in a block of ice and being buried alive in a plastic box beneath a water tank for seven days.

Young’s Commercial Transfer dates back to at least 110 years ago, but was purchased by the Young family in 1935. The business ships produce by truck across California, Arizona and Nevada. It was the 2019 winner of the California Family Business Award presented by the Institute for Family Business at Fresno State.
