The Madera County Economic Development Commission (MCEDC) announced the appointment of Kristina Gallagher as the new executive director on Thursday. Gallagher took over the position Nov. 4.

Gallagher comes into the role with experience in local government advocacy, community engagement and public policy.

Prior to becoming executive director, Gallagher worked with the California State Association of Counties. In this role, Gallagher worked closely with local government and played a key role in passing legislation.

Gallagher graduated from Utah State with a political science degree. After graduating, Gallagher took a job working with former California Gov. Jerry Brown.

“(Gallagher’s) experience with California’s legislative processes and her dedication to public service make her an exceptional choice to lead the MCEDC and enhance our region’s economic landscape,” said Robert Poythress, chairman of the MCEDC.

In her new role as executive director, Gallagher will work to attract new businesses, support local existing businesses and strengthen workforce development programs. She will once again partner with the local government to find areas to improve.

“I am honored to join the MCEDC and work alongside our community partners to create sustainable economic opportunities,” Gallagher said. “Madera County has incredible potential, and I look forward to building on its strengths to support local businesses and attract new investments.”

Gallagher is taking over the position from Darren Rose, who departed in March and now serves as President and CEO of the Building Industry Association of Fresno/Madera Counties.
