Well-known Central Valley reporter Corin Hoggard announced Wednesday on Facebook that he will be relocating to Minneapolis, Minnesota, officially stepping away from his position at ABC30 next Friday.

After six years as a producer of ABC30’s sister station, KTRK-TV, Houston, Hoggard relocated to the Valley in 2005 and went on to report here for almost 18 years. In that time he prepared nearly 4,000 stories in and around the Central Valley.

During his time in the Valley, Hoggard covered high-profile stories including an exclusive series exposing loopholes in AB 109, which allowed sex offenders who violated their parole to avoid jail time.

He was also prominently featured in a documentary from May about convicted murderer Dana Ewell. Hoggard corresponded with Ewell in prison for a decade.

“I’ve done my best to dig as hard as I could and to give voice to victims and survivors especially,” Hoggard wrote in a Facebook post this morning. “I love this place and the people I’ve met along the way. It’s hard to leave that.”

Hoggard’s move to Minnesota is motivated by family. Hoggard’s daughter is in her second year at the University of Minnesota.

“I’m incredibly proud of her. I’m also very fond of her,” the post reads. “She’s a gentle soul with a dedicated heart and a fierce intellect. A lot like her mom.”

In addition to his daughter, he will also reunite with his brother, his wife and their young children who also reside in Minneapolis.

He currently doesn’t have a job lined up in Minneapolis, he said.

Hoggard attended high school in Fargo, North Dakota, and later graduated from the University of Houston Honor College with a B.S. in biology, but later rediscovered his passion for journalism. He received his first opportunity to go into television news after earning a Houston Press award for his newspaper writing.

In 2017, Hoggard returned to the Houston area to assist his former network with its coverage of Hurricane Harvey and the area’s steps toward recovery.

“I’ll be back to visit,” Hoggard’s post reads. “The Central Valley will always occupy a huge helping of my heart.”
