If you’ve ever longed for a suitable koi or even a koi named Sue, you’re far from alone and fulfillment is a day away.

The 42nd annual Central California Koi Show returns — after a two-year pandemic hiatus — October 1-2, sponsored by the Central California Koi Society [CCKS] in partnership with the Shinzen Friendship Garden in Woodward Park.

Richele Kleiser, president of CCKS, says koi society members are extremely helpful and knowledgeable, with several founding members who joined when the club was founded in 1978.

In 2019, CCKS had the opportunity to move the Fresno Koi Show to Woodward Park in the Group Activity Area with the help of the board at the Shinzen Friendship Garden.

“The setting is perfect for the koi show and we hope to make this one of the best koi shows in the state and … nation. We are also working with Shinzen to help improve their koi pond and we hope to officially adopt it to help the koi thrive.”

Admission for the show is free and open to the public. The society website is cencalkoi.com, where there’s also information for vendors and exhibitors.

Hours are Saturday from 9 a.m. – 4 p.m. and Sunday from 9 a.m. – 3 p.m. There will be a raffle for a $250 gift card as well as a general-items raffle and silent auction to support CCKS, in addition to vendors providing koi, fish food, health supplies and numerous other koi-related items.

A Grand Champion award will be given to the best koi on hand, with judging beginning around 10 a.m. on Saturday. Each Koi entered in the show is categorized by the variety and size of the fish. Koi are then judged according to body conformation, pattern and color.
