Kaiser Permanente Fresno’s oncology program has been awarded a three-year accreditation by the American College of Surgeons Commission on Cancer (CoC) with commendation as a designated Comprehensive Cancer Program.

“We are thrilled to be recognized for the exceptional care we provide cancer patients in our community,” said Debbie Hemker, RN, the senior vice president and area manager for Kaiser Permanente Fresno. “Our highly-skilled team of providers is dedicated to providing compassionate and healing care to patients and their families.”

To earn CoC accreditation, Kaiser Permanente had to meet 34 quality care standards, maintain those standards and be evaluated every three years through a survey process. The accreditation with commendation is only awarded if the facility exceeds the standard requirements at the time of its triennial survey.

“This has been a multi-disciplinary team effort of physicians, nurses and staff to achieve this recognition,” said Dr. Smita Rouillard, the physician-in-Chief for Kaiser Permanente Fresno. “This accreditation demonstrates Kaiser Permanente Fresno’s commitment to providing the highest quality care to our patients.”

Established in 1922 by the American College of Surgeons, the CoC is a consortium of professional organizations dedicated to improving patient outcomes and quality of life for cancer patients through standard setting, prevention, research, education and the monitoring of care. Its membership includes Fellows of the American College of Surgeons.
