Former Fresno Mayor Ashley Swearengin has been selected to sit on an external advisory council for a JPMorgan Chase initiative that aims to generate inclusive growth and economic opportunities in cities worldwide.

“AdvancingCities,” is a new $500 million, five-year initiative that will invest in cities where they will be able to help those that have not benefited from economic growth, and will source and establish solutions that help drive inclusive growth in up to 30 communities.

JPMorgan Chase expects the initiative to generate an additional $1 billion in outside capital, totaling up to $1.5 billion that will be dedicated to increase growth in cities.

Swearengin, along with other members of the External Advisory Council, which is made up of various municipal, business and nonprofit leaders, will offer unique expertise and input that will inform the initiative to drive growth in underserved communities, according to a news release.

Swearengin is the current CEO of the Central Valley Community Foundation.

“This is an impressive and exciting commitment made by JPMorgan Chase & Co. to America’s cities,” Swearengin said. “The “AdvancingCities” initiative will provide cities across the country with the opportunity to find new and creative ways to support economic opportunity in their communities.”
