HandsOn Central California has announced the winners for its Hands Across the Valley Volunteer Awards for 2018, also marking the organization’s 50-year anniversary.

There were over 70 nominations for the year of 2018 and Rev. Sharon Avril and Lisa Daniels won the award for Adult Volunteer(s) of the Year.

Other awards were given out to Maritza Villegas for College Student Volunteer of the Year, Tom Flanigan for Lifetime Achievement, and Ashley Webster for Healthy Community Volunteer of the Year.

Webster, who also works as the circulation manager for The Business Journal, was recognized for her work with the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society in which she helped raise $153,000 dollars in only 10 weeks.

“I’m humbled by it,” Webster said. “I was really shocked. Looking back, it didn’t seem like too much crazy work but it was just so fun because we are so passionate about it

HandsOn Central California has been serving the community since 1962 and does work in Fresno, Kings, Tulare, and Madera Counties recruiting volunteers for various causes.

The award ceremony will be held on on April 25th at Clovis Veterans Memorial Hall at 11:30 a.m.
