A beloved Central Valley-born Italian restaurant is adding a new location in Fresno.

The new DiCicco’s Italian Restaurant & Bar is located at 6407 E. Shields Ave., on the southwest corner of Shields and Armstrong avenues east of Fresno Yosemite International Airport. The newly constructed 4,000-square-foot restaurant will have its grand opening tomorrow at 11 a.m.

It will be owned and operated by Carlo DiCicco, a third-generation owner in the family business synonymous with Italian food to many local residents. Fans showed their excitement on social media for the new location after the grand opening date was announced on Facebook last week.

DiCicco’s Italian Restaurant celebrated its 65th anniversary on April 12. “Mama and Papa” Di Cicco opened the original restaurant near Blackstone and Belmont avenues in 1956 with help from their four boys — Nicola, Alberto, Frank and Roberto — who would go on to be known as the Four Sons of Italy.

DiCicco’s grew to have about a dozen locations in California that are owned by various members of the family. The farthest flung location is in Denver, Colorado.

Carlo DiCicco previously operated a DiCicco’s location at Blackstone and Barstow avenues started by his father in 1974, but it closed in 2018. Another location he operated in Oakhurst closed in September 2021.

“As many of you know, we have a new DiCicco’s opening soon in Fresno,” a Facebook message from Carlo and wife Michelle said. “This has been a project in the works for some time and unfortunately we cannot operate two restaurants with the current staff shortage so we will be closing our doors and our last day of business will be Saturday, September 11th.”

The newest DiCicco’s location will operate from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Sunday through Thursday and 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays.
