Fresno residents with an ursine appetite can now rejoice — the city’s first Black Bear Diner is now open.

Located at the former Marie Callender’s at 3602 Shaw Ave., Black Bear Diner’s first Fresno location opened on Feb. 19. Known for its bear-motif and king-sized portions, Black Bear Diner is open from 6 a.m. to 10 p.m.

The 7,108-square-foot restaurant joins about 125 other franchise locations in 13 states. Madera, Hanford, Visalia, Tulare and Porterville also have Black Bear Diner restaurants.

Black Bear Diner has opened six new locations since the start of 2019. Trade publication “Nation’s Restaurant News” recognized it as a Top 10 Fastest-Growing Chain.

A Black Bear Diner may also be in the works in Clovis, at the corner of Alluvial and Willow avenues.
