Officials with Fresno Surgical Hospital have announced earning a 5-star rating on the federal government’s Hospital Consumer Assessment of Healthcare Providers and Systems Survey.

Fresno Surgical Hospital is the only facility in the Central Valley to receive a 5-star rating — only 2.73 percent of U.S. hospitals have earned such a high score. Only four are in California.

The survey reports on patients’ perspectives of hospital care, and is overseen by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services.

“Earning a 5-Star Rating for two consecutive years is truly an honor,” says Kristine Kassahn, CEO of Fresno Surgical Hospital. “Everyone at FSH — from the nurses to the surgeons to the administrative staff — strives to give our patients an optimal experience. This 5-Star Rating shows how dedicated our entire staff is to that mission.”

The survey patients rate hospitals on criteria including how well nurses and physicians communicated with them, cleanliness of patient rooms, how quickly they received help when needed and their overall opinion of the facility.
