Fresno State has made Washington Monthly’s list for the top 25 universities for the third consecutive year, placing at No. 24.

Last year, Fresno State ranked at No. 17 on the list, while it was No. 25 in 2016. The announcement was made Monday morning.

Washington Monthly has been ranking colleges and universities for 13 years with what it calls “a different kind of college ranking” that focuses equally on the three criteria of social mobility, research and public service.

“Fresno State is proud to once again represent the California State University system in the top 30,” said President Joseph I. Castro, PhD.

Fresno State was selected alongside seven Ivy League Institutions, including top-ranked Harvard University, six University of California campuses; and MIT on the list. Among the more than 400 American Association of State Colleges and Universities members, Fresno State is the only one to make Washington Monthly’s to 30. Fresno State and Utah State University (No. 12) are the only Mountain West Conference schools to make the list.

Fresno State was also the No. 2 school in the national university category in commitment to spending federal work-study funds on public service, with almost 70 percent of funds going to service. The University was ranked No. 4 nationally in the net price of attending after subtracting grants and scholarships.

“These types of national distinctions are possible when we choose to be bold in all that we do at Fresno State,” Castro said. “Every day on campus and in the community, we encounter students and alumni who are using the opportunities provided at Fresno State as a launching point to advance in their lives and achieve their goals.”
