Mayor Lee Brand announced Thursday that the City of Fresno flag at city hall will be lowered to half-staff until Monday in honor of David McDonald.

McDonald was the former CEO of Pelco in Clovis and a renowned local philanthropist.

McDonald, 69, was found dead at his home in Prather Wednesday morning, according to published reports.

He sold security camera manufacturer Pelco to French firm Schneider Electric in 2007 for a reported $1.22 billion. He has supported a number of causes including the Fresno Chaffee Zoo, both Measure Z campaigns, the 9/11 California Memorial, Toys for Tots and Miss Winkles Pet Adoption Center.

“David was born and raised of humble beginnings but was determined to leave this world a better place because of his life and his contributions,” according to a statement from his family, which is requesting privacy at this time.

Mayor Brand issued a statement on McDonald’s passing.

“Dave was an exceptional businessman and an even better person who was always willing to give back to his community, and his generosity made a big difference in our quality of life,” Brand said.
