Fresno County’s assessed property tax roll has reached a new milestone, exceeding the $73 billion mark — up nearly 5 percent from last year, according to Assessor-Recorder Paul Dictos.

Sanger had the largest increase in assessed property value in the last year, up 13.4 percent from for a total of more than $1.12 billion. All Fresno County cities but one had net increases in value, including a 6.45 percent bump in Firebaugh ($295.4 million),5.52 percent in Clovis ($9.29 billion) 4.85 percent in Selma ($1.02 billion) and 4.58 percent in Fresno ($32.59 billion).

Orange Cove saw a 1.59 percent decrease in its assessed valuation, for a total of $174.15 million in the 2016-17 tax year.

Dictos said as the housing market crashed, assessed values were lowered. Now with the rebound, values are up again.

“The assessment roll is a barometer of yesterday’s economic weather, and at present it’s looking good,” Dictos said in a statement. “This is good news for our families and children.”
