District 7 Councilmember Nelson Esparza was elected vice president of the Fresno City Council Thursday at its first meeting of 2021.

This is the third year of Esparza’s first term and he will be serving as vice president under new council President Luis Chavez of District 5.

“It is an honor to be selected to this leadership role by my colleagues,” said Esparza. “It is my hope that the new year and new faces at City Hall will help support the changes our City needs to best serve our residents and neighborhoods.”

Esparza serves the District 7 neighborhoods of central and southeast Fresno and also serves as an economics instructor at Fresno City College.
