The Fresno City College Rampage student newspaper made a big showing at a recent journalism competition, with reporters and editors bringing home 16 awards.

At the Journalism Association of Community Colleges state convention in Burbank last weekend, in a competition for work completed in the last semester, Caleb Owens-Garrett won first place in column writing; Bobby Brown won third and fourth places in Illustration and Patrick Forrest got an honorable mention for news writing. Editor David Chavez received a scholarship because of his work, according to Dympna Ugwu-Oju, Rampage adviser.

In an “on-the-spot” competition where students compete with other programs throughout the state completing original work during the conference, The Rampage earned 12 awards:

• Ram Reyes won two first place prizes in news and feature photography.

• Editor-in-chief Cresencio Rodriguez Delgado won fourth place in news writing.

• Jasmine Yoro Bowles and Ashleigh Panoo got an honorable mention in opinion writing.

• David Chavez got an honorable mention in copy editing

• Ashleigh Panoo, David Chavez and Cresencio Rodriguez Delgado got an honorable mention for team feature writing

• Larry Valenzuela and David Chavez won an honorable mention in broadcasting.

• Keaundrey Clark got an honorable mention for sports writing.
