Fresno Yosemite International Airport has unveiled a new employee parking lot, ground transportation facility and expanded cell phone waiting area to meet the demands of increasing passenger traffic.

The ground transportation facility includes taxi queuing and drivers’ waiting areas, as well as access to an indoor waiting area to accommodate extreme weather conditions.

The cell phone waiting area, which opened in July, has been tripled in size to allow enough parking for peak flight arrivals for the pickup of arriving passengers.

The new employee lot, relocated from the long-term public parking area, has a dedicated entrance and exit at McKinley Avenue and eliminates the need for employees to use terminal roads to exit the airport. It is also equipped with six new electric vehicle charging stations.

The relocation of the employee parking location also converts nearly 200 parking stalls to public parking.

“The opening of the employee lot and transportation facility is timely in preparation for the peak holiday travel season,” said Fresno Director of Aviation Kevin Meikle.  “We are now able to fast-track the long-term parking stall conversion, provide ample space in the cell phone area for motorists, and offer less congested access to and from the airport for the traveling public.”

FYI has experienced a 15-percent increase in passenger traffic since 2012, and is on track to complete a record year for 2016.
