Forbes’ Best-in-State Employer list has ranked several Central Valley employers in industries from health care to banking. The list is based on an independent survey from a sample of more than 80,000 employees working for organizations with at least 500 employees in the U.S.

This is the second year Forbes has released this list, which ranks America’s best employers by state and includes all 50 states plus the District of Columbia.

The health care sector on the Forbes list includes Community Medical Centers at No. 84 and Kaiser Permanente at No. 53.

Fresno-based Community Medical Centers ranks among the top 100 for the second year in a row. It is a locally owned, not-for-profit, public-benefit organization based in Fresno that operates four hospitals, a cancer institute along with several long-term care, outpatient and other health care facilities.

Community Medical Centers is home to the only Level 1 Trauma Center and comprehensive burn center between Los Angeles and Sacramento.

The Central Valley’s E & J Gallo Winery represented the wine industry, ranking at No. 34. It is a family-owned company based in Modesto, with operations in Fresno, Madera, Sanger and Livingston.

Also on the list is Golden 1 Credit Union (No. 63). Golden 1 is the only credit union based in California to make the list the past two years, and is one of three credit unions included nationwide this year.

“Golden 1 is honored to be named as one of America’s best employers by Forbes for the second year in a row,” said Donna Bland, president and CEO. “We are extremely proud of our employees, who are dedicated to providing exceptional service to our members across California every day.”

Since the Forbes survey included months during the pandemic, the recognition holds a special weight for local companies.

“Despite the challenges we’ve seen in 2020, our team members remained committed to our members, Golden 1, and to each other,” said Heather Andrade-Neumann, senior vice president, chief human resources officer. “We are inspired by this recognition and by all of our employees who continue to make Golden 1 a great place to work.”

Other companies with Central Valley employees include In-N-Out (No. 2), Waste Management (No. 35), FedEx (No. 66), Trader Joe’s (No. 77), WinCo Foods (No. 25), Costco (No. 3), and Starbucks (No. 100).

Delta Airlines was No. 1.
