The Visalia Economic Development Corp. (VEDC) has new leadership with the announcement of a former distribution center general manager as executive director.

Bruce Nicotero emerged as the top choice out of seven qualified finalists, according to Matt Seals, incoming VEDC chair and president of Seals Construction in Visalia.

Interviews were conducted in late May with a final selection made last week. His start date will be around July 1, Seals added.

“I am excited and humbled to be chosen by the Board of Directors to become the executive director of the Visalia Economic Development Corporation,” Nicotero said. “I am looking forward to working with local businesses, especially those in the Visalia Industrial Park, as well as the city staff, the Workforce Investment Board, local educators and utility providers to enhance the economic benefits for all. My experience managing several industrial facilities throughout my career will allow me to use my perspective to drive improvements and fulfill the mission and vision of the VEDC.”

According to his LinkedIn account, Nicotero spent more than 21 years as the general manager of the JoAnn Fabrics distribution center in Visalia before retiring last year. He is active as a founding board member of the South Valley Industrial Collaborative, fostering partnerships to promote economic development.

Nancy Lockwood of The Lockwood Agency PR firm had been serving in the role on an interim basis, and will work with Nicotero on his transition.
