Valley Children’s Medical Group announced Friday that families may be affected after a data breach that occurred at a software provider it had previously contracted with.

According to a press release provided by the hospital system, a breach at Connexin Software possibly exposed information on more than 2.2 million people nationwide. Connexin reported that around 65,000 of those impacted are patients and families in the Fresno area.

Only primary care patients with Valley Children’s Medical Group were impacted — not patients of Valley Children’s Hospital. Valley Children’s own information technology systems were not breached.

The incident occurred in August, but Valley Children’s was not made aware until Dec. 19, the release stated. The relationship between Valley Children’s and Connnexin ended in October of 2021.

Information accessed in the breach may include:

  • Demographic information such as names, addresses and dates of birth
  • Social security numbers
  • Health insurance information
  • Medical and treatment information
  • Billing and claims information

Valley Children’s Medical Group is asking current and former patients and families of Fresno Children’s Pediatrics, Sky Park Pediatrics and Dakota Pediatrics in Fresno; Magnolia Pediatrics in Clovis; Olivewood Pediatrics in Merced; and Greenfield Pediatrics (now closed) in Hanford to look out for a letter from Connexin.

According to the release, only those potentially impacted by the incident will receive notifications. Families are also encouraged to review credit reports and statements for any irregularities and report suspicious activity.

Families with concerns are encouraged to call Connexin at 855-532-0912 and email Valley Children’s Privacy Team at Privacy@valleychildrens.org.
