GEORGE LURIE  |  Kings County’s new $86 million courthouse will open for business next Tuesday, handling criminal, civil and small claims cases. The gleaming, four-story structure,

funded entirely through SB 1407-related state construction bonds, features 12 state-of-the-art courtrooms and six holding cells. Located adjacent to the Kings County Jail, prisoners will be able to walk to court appearances through an underground tunnel. Omaha, Neb.-based DLR Group designed the facility and Tempe, Ariz.-based Sundt Construction served as the general contractor.
