California Health Sciences University has broken ground on a new, 90,000 square-foot campus in Clovis.

Located on the 2500 block of Alluvial Avenue, a three-story building will house the new College of Osteopathic Medicine that will include a student lounge, osteopathic skills lab, faculty office and professional kitchen.

CHSU President Flo Dunn said that it is her hope that the center will add doctors to the Central Valley, where there is a shortage of primary care physicians.

“More than 50 percent of our students of our students are from the Valley,” Dunn said. “Two-thirds of our graduates have already accepted jobs an 80 percent of those jobs are right in the Valley.”

The College of Osteopathic Medicine is one of ten schools planned by CHSU.

“We hope to matriculate our first class of students in fall of 2020,” Dunn said.

CHSU will also be graduating the inaugural Doctor of Pharmacy Class next week.
