Nine travel industry executives from central China will visit Fresno County this weekend to sample the local tourism scene.
The visit is a segment of a larger tour organized by state tourism agency Visit California to highlight China Southern Airlines’ direct flight service from Wuhan, China, to San Francisco. The Fresno/Clovis Convention & Visitors Bureau is hosting the delegation in hopes of being included in California tourism packages for the Chinese tourism market.
The 22-hour visit will include stops at Simonian Farms, School House Restaurant & Tavern, Fashion Fair, the Elbow Room, Forestiere Underground Gardens and the Fresno County Fall Harvest Wine Journey.
“The Fresno/Clovis Convention & Visitors Bureau is looking forward to once again sharing our amazing destination, Fresno County, to new visitors,” said Layla Forstedt, FCCVB president and CEO, in a statement.
This will be California’s first travel trade delegation from Wuhan, China, which has a population of 10.61 million.
China is California’s top overseas market and continues to grow faster than any other country. In 2017, Chinese visitors to California spent $3.5 billion. Projections show the number of visitors growing to 2.12 million by 2022, a staggering increase of nearly 46 percent.
