Central Valley unemployment rates rose slightly last month as farm harvest activity slowed, but they remained in a favorable range as the state saw a record-low jobless rate.

Fresno County unemployment for October was 6.3 percent, up from a record-low of 5.9 percent in September but below 7.2 percent in October 2017.

Farm employment followed seasonal trends with a month-over decline of 8.300 jobs. Manufacturing also shed 600 positions in that period.

On an annual basis, educational and health services saw the largest year-over increase with 2,200 jobs.

The Kings County unemployment rate for October was 6.4 percent, up from 6 percent in September but below 7 percent the same time last year.

Farm employment was up by 300 month-over-month. The manufacturing industry shed 700 positions in that period.

On the year-over-year basis, nonfarm employment remained unchanged while farms added 500 jobs.

The unemployment rate for Madera County was 5.9 percent last month, up from 5.4 percent in September and below 6.2 percent a year ago.

Farms posted 1,800 less positions on the month-over basis, while nonfarm industries gained 300.

On the year-over basis, farms lost 700 jobs while nonfarm industries added 900.

Tulare County’s unemployment rate for October was 8.3 percent, up from 7.9 percent in September and below 9.1 percent last year.

On the monthly basis Tulare County farms shed 3,000 positions, while nonfarm industries lost 500 positions.

Farms added 2,900 jobs in Tulare County year-over-year, while nonfarm industries added 1,900 positions.

The statewide unemployment rate for October was a record-low 4.1 percent, up from 4.5 percent last year.
