A growing population means a greater need for blood donors. Central California Blood Center is on its way to accomplishing that with its first fixed site in the City of Clovis.

The new site is located next to Best Buy inside the Clovis Commons shopping center off of Herndon and Willow avenues.

The Clovis Chamber of Commerce hosted a grand opening Thursday at 645 W. Herndon Ave. The donation center will serve Clovis residents with easier access to donate much-needed blood.

“We could no longer ignore Clovis. We had to get a fixed site in Clovis,” said Christopher Staub, CEO of the Central California Blood Center.

As the City of Clovis’s population continues to grow, the Central California Blood Center hopes the additional donor center will increase supplies in the Central Valley.

Staub said the need for a new donation site became especially apparent in the last two years.

“As the population grows, the need for blood increases,” Staub said. “We have to stay on our toes and find new donors all the time.”

Clovis has historically been supportive of the Central California Blood Center, hosting mobile donation sites at several events like the Clovis Rodeo.

As the City of Clovis development expands eastbound, he hopes to add another location to better assist Clovis Community Medical Center.

“We’ve always felt embraced by Clovis through our relationships with local hospitals, the Clovis Rodeo Association, the local schools and more,” Staub said. “The Blood Center is looking forward to contributing to the Clovis community, and deepening connections with donors and the medical field with the opening of this new location.”
