Developer Richard Caglia is backing off of plans for a 110-acre industrial park in Fresno that stirred environmental concerns from neighbors.

The project was slated to add about 2 million square feet of commercial space to Central and Cedar avenues near the Ulta and Amazon e-commerce distribution centers.

First reported by GV Wire, the request to rescind the Fresno City Council’s unanimous approval of the project a year ago could give Caglia the chance to resubmit the project with a full environmental impact report.

Caglia told GV Wire he is evaluating his options.

Fresno Mayor Lee Brand said an environmental impact analysis on about 6,000 acres of land in that area is underway to pave the way for further development.

The council’s approval of the project prompted a lawsuit by a group of residents called South Central Neighbors United, who said it would cause negative impacts from groundwater depletion and increased daily vehicle traffic.

The park was expected to operate 24 hours a day and would have generated more than 6,200 daily vehicle trips, according to a report from the city.

The council will consider a resolution at its Thursday regular meeting to rescind its decision “in the best interests of the City of Fresno.”
