The Board of Equalization is putting word out that it will be soon making visits to retailers in the Fresno and Hanford areas.

The BOE’s Statewide Compliance & Outreach Program will be visiting non-residential retail businesses in the 93705 and 93703 area codes in Fresno and the 93230 area code in Hanford “to educate business operators about their tax and fee obligations, and identify those who sell or lease tangible personal property without a seller’s permit,” according to a BOE news release.

The BOE said more than 98 percent of California businesses are operating with the correct permits. Despite that high number, noncompliance contributes to more than $2 billion in collected sales and use taxes, according to the BOE.

A current listing of all locations SCOP teams are scheduled to visit in the near future can be found on the SCOP webpage.
