Today, as the director of the Valley Community Small Business Development Center in Clovis, Rich Mostert helps entrepreneurs make their business dreams come true.

But back in the ‘70s and ‘80s, Rich played bass for San Francisco punk band The Maggots, recording and touring during punk’s heyday.

Their biggest single was “Let’s Get, Let’s Get Tammy Wynette,” a one-minute, 30-second banger inspired by an unusual incident in 1978 when the country star reported being injured and nearly abducted by a man in a Nashville parking lot.

Rich was excited to recently learn the song was used in the Showtime series “George & Tammy,” about the turbulent relationship between Wynette and fellow country star George Jones, starring Michael Shannon and Jessica Chastain.

It also means there’s a $200 royalty check coming Rich’s way — not a bad payday for performing punk rock even by today’s standards.

“We never saw any money,” Rich said of his wild days. “We were paid in beer and places to stay.”

Here’s my advice: Don’t let success go to your head, Rich!
