A Downtown Fresno eatery with a long history is bringing back a dinner special designed to put butts in their dining room seats.

The Shepherd’s Inn at the Historic Santa Fe Hotel is relaunching its $3 steak night this evening, and every following Tuesday for the next four weeks, the eatery announced on Facebook.

For the cost of a venti iced coffee from Starbucks, dine-in patrons will receive a steak cooked to medium and a “generous helping” of mashed potatoes and gravy.

Owner Russell Stone scored a deal on top sirloin steaks from The Meat Market, making the special possible, according to the Facebook post.

Located across the street from the Amtrak train station, The Shepherd’s Inn traces its roots to 1913, when the Santa Fe Hotel opened to cater to the growing population of Basque immigrants who came to the Valley to work as sheepherders. It soon became a center of community life for the Basque population, and today the Shepherd’s Inn continues the tradition of family-style, hearty seven-course meals.

The Shepherd’s Inn is having fun with the promotion, even making a video to celebrate what must be the best steak deal in town for a Tuesday night.

“When historians look back and decide what made Fresno famous, they will most certainly agree it was $3 Steak Night at Shep’s Inn,” proclaims the video.

Steak night runs Tuesdays from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m.
