Shoppers looking for more options in northwest Fresno will be happy to know that a new ALDI is coming soon.

According to Fresno City Councilmember Mike Karbassi (District 2), confirmation was made yesterday that the German-owned chain would be opening its latest store on Shaw and West avenues, with construction on the new building beginning next year. It will be at the site of the former Tang Dynasty Chinese buffet building at 2066 W Shaw Ave.

A request for information from ALDI was not returned.

Another ALDI location also opened in October in Clovis, on Herndon and Fowler avenues.

“I’m very excited to have a blighted corner at Shaw and West be redeveloped,” Karbassi said. “I think the adjacent residents will really appreciate the property now being maintained, which discourages vagrants.”

Karbassi added he is hopeful the rest of city council will help in supporting the process.
