Adventist Health Hanford has invested in new laser technology to ease the treatment of kidney stones — a first for the region.

The hospital said it has positioned itself as a leader in urological care with the purchase of a Lumenis Pulse 120H Holmium Laser System with MOSES Technology. The system allows urologist the precision to perform minimally invasive procedures to remove kidney stones of all sizes. For patients, it means 20% faster procedures, less anesthesia use, faster recovery times and a greater likelihood the procedure can be performed on an outpatient basis without a hospital stay, according to an Adventist Health news release.

The Hanford facility is the only hospital in the region to offer the technology, according to the release. The $250,000 price tag for the system is part of a series of investments Adventist Health is planning for its Hanford facility in the coming months, said Renee Garcia, Adventist Health Central Valley Network marketing account manager.

The system allows surgeons performing a procedure call lithotripsy to precisely identify kidney stones and zap them to dust, fragmenting them so patients can go home stone-free the same day, according to the release. With other lithotripsy procedures, patients would sometimes require a second procedure to completely remove fragments.

“At Adventist Health, we’re committed to ensuring our community receives the safest, highest quality care. Our investment in this technology, which will lead to a better experience for our patients, is a testament to that commitment,” said Gurvinder Kaur, medical officer of Adventist Health Central Valley Network. “We’re proud to be the first hospital in the region to offer this technology.”
