Jeffrey Scott Agency (JSA) announced Wednesday it has acquired Berkeley-based marketing agency Town Kryer.

The merger adds a second office for the Fresno-based advertising agency.

The acquisition — the terms of which were not disclosed — marks the second in the past 15 months. JSA also acquired Fresno-based Ricana Advertising in January 2022.

Founded in 1976, JSA is the largest marketing agency in the Central Valley, according to Business Journal research. It reported 36 employees and 42 accounts as of November 2022. Notable clients include Amtrak San Joaquins, EECU, Me-n_Ed’s and Sun-Maid.

The merger aims to both expand brand management and public relations services for JSA clients as well as broadening Town Kryer’s reach, generating more creative capabilities for its clientele, according to a news release.

“This is a homecoming for us,” said Marcus Young, co-founder and CEO of Town Kryer. “I started my career in advertising at JSA in the mid ‘90s and look forward to returning with more experience, and a list of venerable clients to add to their book of businesses.”

Following the merger, Young will serve as vice president and will manage business development under the JSA umbrella.

“When you tether the fact that JSA has worked with Marcus to serve [Town Kryer] clients for the better part of five years, with the level of understanding and experience he brings from owning his own agency — it’s easy to say we look forward to a bright future and expanded potential as a combined agency,” said JSA President Bruce Batti.

Acquiring a Bay Area company will allow JSA to benefit from a larger footprint in Northern California. The acquisition will also offer to Town Kryer JSA’s creative and clientele management staff.

“We see the opportunity to grow faster and with more purpose than ever before,” Botti added. “The acquisition allows us to hang a shingle in Northern California — a geography we already serve and continue to offer our clients leading edge capabilities and technologies necessary to be successful in 2023 and beyond.”

The acquisition took effect March 14.
