The Career Technical Education (CTE) program at Fresno City College will have more room in its budget with help from a $1 million allocation on behalf of the state.

The money, obtained by Assemblyman Dr. Joaquin Arambula (D-Fresno), will go towards job training and funding for such classes as welding and electrical systems technology. Arambula made the announcement at a press conference at Fresno City College on Tuesday.

“Now the workforce of tomorrow is going to be looking like the workforce of my family as well,” Arambula said. “I have an uncle who’s a welder and an electrician, and I’m proud of the work that you do each day for our communities.”

A high emphasis has been placed on career training at Fresno City College. This year, the California Community Colleges Chancellor’s Office recognized 27 CTE programs with economic mobility and strong wages. The career development work for the community college is expected to increase further with the new campus in West Fresno.

“This is a bright day for our community,” Arambula said. “The future of Fresno is bright and I look forward to these partnerships and what we can accomplish together.”
