Yosemite area hotel to add more rooms

Best Western Plus Yosemite Gateway Inn in OakhurstA dozen new rooms will be added at the Best Western Plus Yosemite Gateway Inn in Oakhurst during an expansion that is scheduled to wrap up in spring 2013.

When complete, the hotel located at 40530 Highway 41 will have a total of 134 rooms. The new rooms will be put in on a vacant lot owned by the hotel just to its north.

"From May to October, we run at just under 100 percent occupancy, so this will allow us to serve more people," said Bill Putnam, general manager of the hotel, in a press release.

Putnam added that the expansion project will lead to numerous construction jobs while the hotel plans to hire more housekeepers and possibly another employee in its laundry room.

The hotel already has the most rooms of any lodge in the Oakhurst area with the addition of a full-service restaurant and bar as well as meeting space that can accommodate up to 100 people.  

The new rooms should be ready to accommodate guests before the busy spring and summer season in 2013.
