The EPU Childrens Center #GivingTuesday portal allows donors to pick which programs they want to support.

Central Valley organizations are kicking off their holiday fundraising efforts by participating in the global #GivingTuesday movement, using the power of social media and the web to encourage donors to step up to the plate.

Following Black Friday and Cyber Monday, #GivingTuesday began in 2012 and has spread throughout the world.

The following local organizations are participating, according to a web search and press releases shared with The Business Journal:

 

AMOR

Fresno-based nonprofit Alliance for Medical Outreach & Relief is running its campaign exclusively on Facebook, and this year The Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation is matching all donations up to $50,000 per nonprofit made through Facebook’s new donation tool. AMOR’s mission is to improve the health status of communities here and aboard, including operating a hospital and ten clinics in Afghanistan. It is launching its first domestic project in Mendota next year.

Central California SPCA

The nonprofit is soliciting donations to help the animals in its care, telling donors that a gift as low as $5 can feed a dog for 10 days or a cat for 28 days.

Clovis Community College

This is Clovis Community College’s first-ever one-day online fundraising campaign, with a goal of raising at least $5,000 toward student scholarships. If the college raises $5,000, State Center Community College Foundation Board Member Gus Bonner and his wife Greti will donate another $5,000. The college expects to exceed the goal.

CMAC

The Community Media Access Collaborative in Downtown Fresno provides video production equipment and training to residents and other Valley nonprofits.

EPU Children’s Center

This nonprofit in Fresno provides vulnerable children in the community and their families with early childhood intervention efforts including physical therapy, occupational therapy, speech therapy and more. Its #GivingTuesday online portal is very elaborate and allows donors to pick the programs they want to support.

Fresno Arts Council

This organization behind the popular monthly ArtHop events is raising money to invest in future community art projects.

Fresno Interdenominational Ministries

Known as FIRM, this nonprofit provides services to Fresno refugee communities, including Hmong, Laotian, Slavic, African and Syrian groups, representing more than 60,000 people in Fresno County. Its asking donors to take an “unselfie” — a photo of the donor with a small poster message about FIRM to post on social media.

Fresno Metro Black Chamber of Commerce

The chamber is raising money to build its Central Valley Women’s Economic Impact Center, meant to “engage, educate, empower and support diverse and multicultural women leaders while facilitating their continued growth and success…” It has a $1,000 goal.

Habitat for Humanity Fresno County

This nonprofit works to put people in homes and improve current housing conditions has a goal of raising $8,500 to “raise the roof on a new home for one family in our community…”

The Maddy Institute

Housed at Fresno State, this organization’s goal is to “inspire citizen participation, elevate government performance, provide non-partisan analysis and assist in providing solutions for public policy issues important to the region, state and nation.” Contributions will support programs including legislative internships and its various media programs.

UCSF Fresno

This institution’s goal is to provide medical care, research and education to benefit the San Joaquin Valley and Beyond.

UFW

The United Farmworkers union is participating in #GivingTuesday, pledging to support farmworkers in areas including immigration, pesticides, workplace safety and more.

This global organization’s mission is to create “community-based and community-led solutions that strengthen the cornerstones for a good quality of life: education, financial stability and health.”

The local public television station has a goal of $50,000 to support new programming such as Finding Your Roots, Ken Burns’ The Vietnam War and more.
