Ahead of a key city vote, Bastian Court Apartments, a proposed 61-unit, five-story complex in Downtown Fresno, will be holding a community meet-and-greet on Feb. 13.

Partners in the affordable housing facility will be serving food and informing neighbors and surrounding businesses about the project to gain community support from 10:30 a.m.-1 p.m. at the project site at Stanislaus and L streets.

The project, which is on next week’s Planning Commission agenda for approval, will cost an estimated $14.7 million to construct. So far, $4.05 million has been raised, which came from the City of Fresno.

City Council members voted to approve the funding in 2008 through Housing and Urban Development HOME loans. The remainder of the funds will come from  tax credit allocations and an infusion from developers, said Jaime Gonzalez a partner with Bastian Partners.

Bastian Court Apartments is being spearheaded by Mission Housing Development Corporation in San Francisco, a non-profit affordable housing development firm.

Tomorrow’s event is being held prior to the Planning Commission meeting to gain further community support.

“The bulk of the community and council members are very supportive of it, but a few neighbors have raised concerns,” said Jason Tenty, the project manager with Explore General, Inc., the company overseeing construction of Bastian Court. “We’ll meet with the community and answer questions over (those) concerns.”
